Amsterdam Amstel and Amstel Station is a metro and railway station in Amsterdam, located on the line Amsterdam-Utrecht. The station building was built under the direction of architect HGJ Schelling. The railway was opened on October 15, 1939, as part of the Eastern Railway Works. Daily, up to 50.000 train and subway passengers travel towards their destination via Amstel. In 2001 the station was completely renovated and a number of shops were added.

Inside the station, passengers can admire beautiful wall paintings signed by Peter Alma dating back in 1939. These wall paintings have also been printed on the outer windows of the platform roof. Furthermore, there is a tile picture from 1958. This tile picture was designed and manufactured by Peter Alma H. Rijneveld. On the outside and inside the building are also two images of Theo van Reijn 1939. The station has two island platforms and four tracks, of which the middle two are in use since 1977 for the Amsterdam Metro.
The Amstel is accessible by tram 12 (Sloterdijk Station - Amstel) and metro lines 51 (Amstelveen Westwijk - Central Station), 53 (Gaasperplas - Central Station) and 54 (Gein - Central Station).The closest airports to the station are: Schiphol and Rotterdam Airport. Some of the main touristic attractions are: Madame Tussaud's Amsterdam, Artis Zoo, the Royal Palace Amsterdam, the Shippinghouse, Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Cafe Mankind and Nieuwmarkt are two other popular areas located nearby.
