Amsterdam Muiderpoort

The Muiderpoort Station (also Amsterdam Pontanus Street) is a fork-station in Amsterdam to the eastern division of the railways Amsterdam - Utrecht (Rhine Railway) and Amsterdam - Amersfoort (Eastern Railway), in Netherlands.

It was built under the direction of architect H.G.J. Schelling. The station was opened on October 15, 1939, replacing the low-lying dating Muiderpoort stop, which was then closed. The new station was built as part of the Eastern Railway Works. Tram lines 3 and 7 have a stop at the station which is also
their endpoint.
In 2003 there was a murder committed at the station. Since then, security cameras have been installed. The station has a kiosk supposedly for tickets, food and printing. There are also public elevators. One is located so that cyclists can ride in it directly and it is the only drive-in elevator in Netherlands. The Muiderpoort Station has connections in 3 directions: the first to Amsterdam Centraal, Zaandam and Uitgeest, the 2nd in the direction Weesp - Almere and Weesp - Amersfoort and the last towards the Amstel, Gouda and Rotterdam Centraal.
The closest airports to this station are: Schiphol and Rotterdam Airport and an important institution situated here is VU University Amsterdam. Some of the main touristic attractions are: Madame Tussaud's Amsterdam, Artis Zoo, Science Park, the Royal Palace Amsterdam, the Shippinghouse, the Historical Museum Amsterdam, Dam Square, Anne Frank House, Tropenmuseum, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Cafe Mankind and Nieuwmarkt are two other popular areas located nearby. There is also a lovely shopping area for those tourists looking for special souvenirs.
