An annual event is The Urs Ajmer Sharif. It is the townships cheif festival and eulogizes the Sufi prophet Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti. Qawwalis and festive songs are sung at the famous shrine in the city. Millions of devotees travel to the city during the Urs and offer prayers and supplications.
The streets are nusually lined with colourful displays and handcraft tokens such as magnificent rugs, dyes and block printed fabrics, embroidered durries, silver baubles and jewellery. The sequined and decorated leather footwear called Mojaris and the naturally scented oils called Atar of Ajmer are well-known. Madar gate, Station Road, Purani Mandi, Naya Bazaar, Kaisarganj and Nala Bazaar are favored by shoppers. Tourists can also go on excursion to neighbouring towns, such as Pushkar, Kishangarh, and Foy Sagar.
