Netherlands)
or Alkmaar accommodation? Alkmaar, with a population of about 95,000 is a historic city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. Although near the sea, Alkmaar has no coastal harbor. You can reach the city by train, bus and the ferry. Cycling is the best way to get around in the city. The old city of Alkmaar is like an oval, only about 1 km from east to west, so everything is within walking distance.
The east and south are residential and the western part is where shops and public buildings are concentrated. Most of the moat around the city has survived and dates from about 1590. There are an enormous amount of historical buildings, museums and old windmills to see in and around the city that are all very interesting to see.
The famous cheese market is no longer a cheese market, but produced and distributed from factories. There is a cheese museum, however, where tourists can see how cheese was produced and traded in the older days.
Alkmaar is a very historical city, with a bit of history around every corner and outside the city as well, so tourists need quite a long stay here to be able to take in as much of this city as possible. - Browse the Alkmaar Map or compare Alkmaar accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
