Alpe d'Huez is one of the main mountains in the Tour de France. It has been a stage finish almost every year since 1976. Alpe d'Huez is also called the "Dutch Mountain", Alpe d'Huez is one of Europe's premier skiing venues. Founded in 1936 and located high in the Oisans Alpes above sea level, Alpe d'Huez is the central resort of the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. The Alpe d'Huez slogan is "L'ile au Soleil" meaining (Island of the Sun) and this reputation is well deserved with almost all slopes being south facing. Alpe d’ Huez has a large amount of nursery slopes to suit the beginner with impressive blue and green runs around the village. Intermediates can enjoy plenty of blue and red runs including lengthy pistes for some marvellous skiing.
If you are looking for evening entertainment you will find plenty of bars and restaurants to spend an evening enjoy a meal of traditional French cuisine or perhaps a fondue, if you prefer you can get pizzas and pasta. There are discos, bars with live music where you can dance until late.
