or Altopascio accommodation? The commune of Atlopascio is located in Lucca Province, in Tuscany, Italy. This small town was inhabited in Roman times, but it was the hostel, first mentioned in the 11th century, that brought it fame. In fact, this hostel was built to accommodate pilgrims travelling to Rome, and would eventually become the foundation for the order of Saint James of Altopascio. There are several historic buildings and sites that remain from the heyday of this small town. One of these is the Church of Santi Jacopo, Cristiforo and Eligio, which was a medieval hospital, as well as being a church. Another is the Badia of St Peter, which was built in the 11th century, improved over the centuries, but which eventually fell into ruin, leaving only the outer walls of the apse.
