The spa square, Gyógy tér forms the centre of the town. Beaches such as the Eszterházy, Kisfaludy Beach, and the beach of the Füred Camping are fun seaside spots.
Balatonfured also has a fair share of historical buildings worth visitng. Among these is the Horváth House built in the 1700’s which is now a part of a sanatorium. To get an idea of the famous people who have been to the spa, the Balatonfüred Pantheon contains an arcade decorated with plaques with the memories of these persons. The Classic round church is also an interesting site. The Tagore Promedade Park features many lime trees signifying the location whereRabindranath Tagore, a famous Hindu poet, found the cure for a heart condition and planted a lime tree there in the 1800’s. Down the harbor one can view the beautiful sculpture of Balaton Wind and the two statues of the Fisherman and the Ferryman guarding the meeting point of the promenade and the pier.
Events such as the St. Anne’s Ball held each July for over a hundred years now, is very exciting to participate in. It is held in the historical building of the former Horvath Hotel. The Sail Unfurling Ceremony and the Whitsun Song International Children Chorus Festival are held on beautiful rose gardens before the pier. Excellent Hungarian wines and a diverse culture can be indulged in at Balatonfured. Activities include joining any of the popular sailing clubs by the beach.
Accommodation in Balatonfured tends to be concentrated along the coast and include the largest camp site by Lake Balaton. Each accommodation tends to have its own beach. The Hullam Hostel is rated among the best accommodations in the town and boasts century old architecture, and is advantageously located near the Balaton-Highland National Park.
