The city has also many old town attractions that can mostly be accessed by foot. Among the main attractions in the city is the Munster, Basel’s cathedral that was built in 1019-1500. Its main feature is the Galluspforte which is considered the most important Romanesque sculptural work in Switzerland. The Pfalz or plaza also offers a spectacular view of the Rhine River and is a nice place for picnicking. Other old town attractions include the the Elisabethan Church, Marktplatz, Rathaus and the Gates to the Walled City.
