It sits at the southwest of Kalamazoo, and is the administrative location of Whirlpool Corporation, which makes the city the world’s largest producer of numerous home appliances.

The founders of Bento Harbor were Henry C. Morton, Charles Hull, and Sterne Brunson. In memory of its founding fathers, the city now has schools named after each of them. Although the first name of the city was Brunson Harbor, it was later changed to Benton Harbor in honor of the former Missouri Senator, Thomas Hart Benton.

Sports are enjoyed as one of the main activities of the city, which is why there are a number of recreational centers found all over the area. However, the city is not really all about sports, since it does play as one of the hosts of the yearly Blossomtime Festival–the oldest Michigan multi-community festival– together with St. Joseph. Some other tourist attractions that guests can visit while in the city include the Shiloh House, House of David, Morton House, and Sarett Nature Center.
