or Bergen accommodation? Since 1900, the village of Bergen has been known as an artists village and in the 1920s and 1930s, the Bergen School of Painters was founded. You would get to Bergen by bus from Alkmaar, which runs every 15 minutes. Some interesting places to see in Bergen include Gemeentemuseum Het Sterkenhuis, a small historical museum, Museum Kranenburg, Kunscentrum Bergen, the art centre, and Park Meerwijk. Bergen is a starting point for walking and cycling in the dune reserves, which begin at the edge of the village. Much of the dune forest in the dune nature reserve, was originally planted in the 19th century to prevent the dunes from burying the villages. The reserve covers 1,900 hectares, and is accessible on foot or by bike from several points. De Kleine Javaan, an Indonesian restaurant, is a great place to take a break and have a great meal.
