or Bishkek accommodation? Bishkek, with a population of about 900,000 in 2005, is the capital and largest city in Kyrgyzstan. A relatively new city, with little in the way of historical sites, Bishkek lies along the Tien Shan mountains in the Chui Valley. It is a great base for trips to the mountains, Issyk Lake and a trek into the south. Bishkek is an interesting example of a planned city, with boulevards flanked by irrigation canals and large trees. There are Soviet-style apartment complexes and buildings with marble facades. Bishkek is a city of largely young people who are friendly and very hospitable. One can get to Bishkek by plane, train, bus or car. To get around the city, there are the options of the local taxi service, mini buses or a system of trolley buses that run along the major streets. Some of the places of interest to visit while touring Bishkek would be Ala-Too Square, the National Historical Museum and Panfilov Park. Osh Bazaar is the city’s best-known food bazaar. There are hundreds of products available fresh from the farms on the outskirts of town, especially during the spring and summer months. Plenty of souvenirs can be found at Osh Bazaar as well. As there are many ethnic Russians who live in the city, Russian food can be found everywhere, although there is a fast growing number of restaurants and cafes catering to more varied tastes. Bishkek offers the local adaptation of the American hamburger called the gamburger. One of the most popular gamburger stands is across the street from the main post office and is utilized daily by students looking for a cheap meal. The Four Seasons Restaurant, not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name in New York, is a high-end restaurant with delicious food and a large selection of European and Asian food. This eatery offers year-round live music, baby-sitting and is popular with foreign dignitaries. Bishkek’s nightlife is impressive, especially for young single people, and foreigners are welcomed with open arms and most of the time do not have to pay a cover charge. Some of the places you might want to frequent are Golden Bull, Fire and Ice, Retro Metro, Promzona and Sweet 60s. For accommodation, whether you are looking for budget, mid-range or expensive, there are many to choose from. The Hyatt Regency, situated in the business district, is Bishkek’s largest five star hotel, and is very popular with foreign dignitaries and businessmen. - Browse the Bishkek Map or compare Bishkek accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
