Duty to its strategic position in Arkansas, particularly in the Mississippi Flyway bird migration path, the city’s Big Lake Wildlife Management Area is rich in bird wildlife that is best for duck hunting. A popular stopover in Blytheville is the Great River Heritage Museum, which used to be the former Strategic Air Command base that supported a fleet of B-52s. Main Street Blytheville is the home of several historic buildings. A famous stop for tourists is the Ritz Civic Center, which has become witness to the changes in Main Street since 1981. The Greyhound Bus Station is also found there, which is one of the few surviving free-standing art deco bus stations in the U.S. and is also registered as a historic place. Another registered historic place in Blytheville is the Kress Building. Today, more than a historic district, Main Street is also the city’s commercial center. Many goods and service business establishments may also be found lining the streets from retail shops to restaurants that serve Southern dishes.
Golfers can tee off at the Thunder Bayou Golf Links. The golf course is on the Natural State Golf Trail, which has been designed to remind of windswept Scottish courses.
Tourists visit Blytheville annually to see the annual May Springtime on the Mall Festival and the October Chili Cook-off. It is also the sight of the Mississippi County Fair during fall and the fantasy holiday lights called “Light of the Delta”.
