or Bolu accommodation? The town of Bolu is located on the old highway from Istanbul to Ankhara, in the Bolu Province. While the road itself still crosses Mount Bolu, there is now also a tunnel, below the town itself, which provides access to the area. This midsized town, which has around eighty five thousand residents, has been inhabited since 2000 BC, when it was a part of the Hittite kingdom, and there remain ruins and artifacts that trace it’s long history from that time, through its history as a roman settlement, up to its present day incarnation as a market town. Those interested in the history of Bolu should visit the Bolu Museum, which houses artifacts from the Hittite, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman eras. There is also a 14th century mosque, known as Ulu Camii to explore. Alternatively, you could choose to shop on the main street, which has been an important part of the town’s history for centuries. Then there’s the weekly market, where local farmers, artists and crafters sell their wares, and people from the surrounding countryside visit to buy their groceries.
