or Bolzano accommodation? Bolzano is the beautiful capital of the province of Bolzano-Bozen in Italy. The city has six major tourist areas including the historical city centre, the Rentsch-Rencio which displays a rich blend of German and Italian culture, the attractive mountain resort of Kohlern-Colle, the Gries which is the arts and culture hub of the city, the new city with its shopping areas and restaurants and the commercial south Bolzano area which hosts the massive Christmas Fair each year. Swimming, ice hockey, ice skating and soccer are the main sports activities in the town.
To experience pieces of Bolzano’s culture, The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is a great place to explore. It is the home of the Iceman Otzi and from time to time features special exhibitions on original Chachapoya mummies from Peru. The Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, the Messner Mountain Museum Firmian, and the Municipal Museum should also be visited. The City Gallery features interesting art exhibitions. The Monument of Walther von der Vogelweide and the Victoria Monument on the other bank of the Talfer River should also be seen. Our Lady of the Assumption is a magnificent 13th century Gothic Romanesque cathedral and is a must see. The 13th century Runkelstein Castle, Maretsch Castle with its lovely vineyards and the 18th century Mercantile Palace with its imposing Baroque architecture and the Mercantile Museum are major monumental landmarks in Bolzano.
The city’s parks are great spots for recreation and relaxation. Talferwiesen/Prati del Talvera extends on both banks of the River Talfer while the Ducal and Eisackufer Parks provide plenty land space for fun activities. The attractively perfumed flowers at Henry's promenade provide a nice environment to picnic in. Events in Bolzano include the exciting Bolzano Festival Bozen every summer with live music and concerts from Baroque and renaissance periods and the Upload Music Contest and Festival which is an entertaining song contest held each May or June. Tanzsommer Bozen is the annual ballet festival while the International Jazz Festival attracts huge crowds each summer. Theatres such as the New City Theatre and cinemas like the Eden Cinema and Cineplexx offer a wide range of cultural and modern shows.
