or Bregenz accommodation? Bregenz is the capital of Vorarlberg, the westernmost federal state of Austria. The town of Bregenz is located on the Austrian Bodensee close to the border of Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The city is located on the eastern shores of Lake Constance, the third-largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, and between Switzerland in the west and Germany in the northwest.
The town has a lot of history which dates back to the Roman times and was once a military fort and was formerly called Brigantinum. The town has a lot of attractions which include the Upper town district which has the oldest buildings with some dating back to as far as the 13th century. The Martin's Tower with its late Roman and baroque style architecture is a landmark and is definitely worth a visit. Another very impressive building is the gothic parish church of St. Gall, which has Roman-Romanesque foundation and a Baroque altar.
The 16th century town hall and the ruins of the 16th century fortress of Hohenbregenz both in Lower town are also worth a visit. Bregenz comes alive during the cultural festival called Bregenzer festival which occurs during spring and summer at Lake Constance.
Bregenz has a lot of accommodation available to meet the needs and budget of just about everyone and one such option is the Mercure Hotel Bregenz City.
