or Cape Girardeau accommodation? Cape Girardeau started out as a tiny trading post to a frontier settlement to a large, thriving college town. The town was named after Jean Baptiste De Geradot, a French soldier who established a temporary trading post in 1733.The city is home to the Southeast Missouri State University, the largest university in the southeast portion of the state.
The city is rich in cultural and historical attractions, partly due to its efforts to preserve its long history. The largest of these is the Mississippi River Tales Mural which is painted on the city’s downtown floodwall. Right next to the floodwall is the Riverfront Park of Cape Girardeau Missouri.
