This small city is home to several local events however, including the Neil Simon Theater Festival, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and several others. It is also the home of the Southern Utah University.
While the city itself was founded by Mormon settlers in the 18th century, there are several well preserved examples of rock art in the nearby Parowan Gap, and the Fremont area, that date back to around 1000 AD. These sites are well worth a visit if you are in the area.
The historic main street, which looks a little like it’s been frozen in time, is a great place for a stroll, and there are shops, restaurants and more to explore. There are also fast food chains, bars and more, and of course, the city is surrounded by sandstone mountains, which makes it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
Cedar City is also known as Festival City USA, a name earned thanks to the many festivals that is hosted in the city. These include the Great American Stampede, the Groovefest Music Festival, the Palute Restoration Gathering and Pow Wow, and many others, Accommodation, too, is well provided in this small city, with several Best Western, Motel 6, Holiday Inn and other chain hotels, as well as small local establishments.
