or Chengde accommodation? Chengde is a city in Hebei province, People's Republic of China, situated northeast of Beijing. It is best known as the site of the Mountain Resort, a vast imperial garden formerly used by the emperors of the Qing Dynasty. It was a tiny, ordinary city for hundreds of years, until the 18th century, which saw the city transformed from a sleepy backwater burg into an awesome area of regal gardens, palace walls and ceremonial buildings. While in Chengde you may visit many of their beautiful attractions, such as the sophisticated Mountain Resort that features large parks with lakes, pagodas, and palaces ringed by a wall. Outside the wall there are the Eight Outer Temples which was built in varying architectural styles drawn from throughout China. One of the best-known of these is the Putuo Zongcheng Temple. The amazing Chengde Imperial Palace is a must see, it measures well over two square miles and includes 110 buildings with over one million square feet of floor space. Amongst these buildings, you will find the largest intact garden and palace wall in the entirety of China. You will also find the shortest river in the world, called the Rehe, with a large portion of the river completely enveloped by the resort"s gardens. The nearby Puning Temple, built in 1755, houses the world's tallest wooden statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Another well-liked attraction of the Chengde area is the Sledgehammer Peak that is a large rock structure in the shape of a reversed sledgehammer. A variety of other mountains, valleys, and grasslands lies within the borders of the city for you to view. The outstanding Saihanba National Park is in northern Chengde, where you may enjoy a nice day of picnicking on the lawns. Chengde host two main festivals for you to enjoy, they are the Forest and Grassland Festival of Mulan Imperial Hunting Park that mainly displays the unique scenery of forest and grassland and to promote ecotourism. The other is the Dragon Boat Festivals, this is a joyous and exciting festival that features the dragon boat contest, gliding acts, water performances, as well as gong and drum performances.
