or Ciudad Real accommodation? The name Ciudad Real, literally translated, means Royal City. At one stage during its long history, that is exactly what this city in the Castilla-La Mancha area of Spain was. These days, while it is still the capital of the province, it is principally a commercial, industrial and tourism hub. Reaching Ciudad Real these days is easy, thanks to the newly built airport, and it is also a stop on the high-speed railway line from Madrid. Among the main sights in the city are the original city walls, which once encircled the medieval city of Ciudad, but of which only two sections remain. This is also the area where the famous Don Quixote, or the Man from La Mancha, lived, and there is a museum dedicated to him next to the Parque de Gasset. Another attraction in the city is the Iglesia de Santiago, which is a gothic style church that was constructed during the 13th century, and is the oldest church in the city. There are of course other churches, museums and places of interest, and, at the centre of the town, the Plaza Mayor. On the last two days of July each year, Ciudad Real hosts the La Pandorga Festival, and this is a good time to visit the city.
