The town was founded in 1783 and was once a home site to George Rogers Clark. Clarksville is the oldest American Town in the Northwest Territory. It is home to the Colgate Clock which is one of the largest clocks in the world. It is also where you can find the Falls of the Ohio State Park which is a large bed of fossils.
With some of the largest exposed beds of fossils from the Devonian Period, the state has constructed an educational center in the area. Beds of fossils include marine and plant life from a pre-historical coral reef that is 386 years old.
Many sports fields and parks are in the area including Lapping Park which has a shelter house, soft ball field, amphitheater and hiking trails. Clarksville is also where the renowned restaurant Texas Roadhouse was born, which is still located in its original location in the Green Tree Mall.
