or Cocoa accommodation? Located in Brevard County, Florida, Cocoa is a former settlement of fishermen and their families who arrived in the area in 1860. A post office and the first commercial building were erected in a few years. The city was named after a Cocoa plant with which the small town was then affiliated with, although other versions of how the town was named also exist.
The place has a lot of historic attractions as well as various activities to do. The S.F. Travis Hardware Store is one of the oldest stores in the area. Opened in 1885, the store is still in business as of 2009. Other historic sites in the area include the Alladin Theater, City Point Community Church and Porcher House. The Alladin Theater is also known as the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The Florida Historical Library, the Florida Solar Energy Center and the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science are also located here. Visitors who want to visit the Space Center can make Cocoa a convenient jumping off point.
