or Collioure accommodation? Collioure is a town in the Pyrénées-Orientales region in southern France, which is found on the Languedoc coast, just north of the border with Spain. The town is now an enjoyable place to stop if you are exploring this coastline, with a couple of small beaches, and the vineyards and mountains accessible behind the town. Collioure is a wonderful destination to visit; however this historical, scenic Mediterranean town is still unspoilt and perfect for a quiet break.
There are two main attractions to see and explore while in Collioure, namely the church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, which sits in the harbour and its bell tower in the past acted as the lighthouse. The second sight is the castle that dominates the town, called the Royal Castle that was once in use by the Templers. It is the area between these two monuments that will most interest you, with cobbled streets to explore, pretty pastel-painted houses, and palm trees lining the seafront. Be sure to try one of the seafood restaurants along the waterfront in Collioure, where their anchovies are especially highly regarded.
Nevertheless the area also makes for a restful vacation spot, as it has lovely beaches that are with safe for swimming and to keep young children happy. Sitting on the rocky coastline of French Catalonia; Collioure forms an exceptional base for walking and, in winter, skiing in the Pyrenees-Orientales. There are less exhausting but still vigorous walks around the town for example to Le Fort Sainte Elme, while the 18th century windmill should be visited by you; its olive terraces provide a cool retreat and a breather on the climb. Alternatively it is somewhere to just stop and enjoy a shady, quiet place where one can sit and read; or simply contemplate life.
If you are a wine lover, you can visit Les Cellier des Dominicans in the cloisters adjoining the Dominican Church, to taste some of the best in this area. In the summer there are free concerts in Place de 18 Juin for you to attend and enjoy. Other events to partake in are the Eglise de Notre Dames des Anges, or the three-day celebrations, which attracts you to the see the town's bodégas and fireworks.
