or Concord (New Hampshire) accommodation? Concord is the capital of the state of New Hampshire and the seat of Merrimack County. Previously, the settlement of Abenaki Indians, the area where Concord now stands was originally known as the Plantation of Penacook. With the arrival of settlers from Massachusetts, the town started to form until it was incorporated as Rumford in 1734. The town was renamed Concord in 1765.
The city is home to a number of attractions. One of the most famous is the New Hampshire State House which was built in between 1815 and 1818 and was designed by architect Stuart Park. Another downtown landmark is the Eagle Hotel, known as the downtown landmark for almost 150 years. This hotel holds significance as where past presidents Ulysses Grant, Hayes and Harrison dined in. The hotel is still a landmark although it closed its doors 1961. The Walker-Woodman House is another historical attraction in Concord, known as the oldest standing house in the city. The city is also the home to the oldest golf course in New Hampshire, the Beaver Meadow Golf Course. This 18-hole golf course has been around for 100 years and has its own pro shop, a driving range and a banquet hall.
