or Corinth accommodation? Corinth is a breathtaking city surrounded by several gulfs and the Vocha Plain in Greece. The city is home to many ancient ruins reminisce of the Roman era in the town. The town is an archaeologist’s paradise and is well known as the most visited town by Paul- a famed disciple of Jesus Christ. On the Acrocorinth, lies the ruin of the Temple of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. The ruins of a stone minaret and ancient defensive walls can also be seen in the vicinity.
The ruins of the 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo is a major sight. The temple can be found on a hill overlooking the ancient Roman marketplace. Seven Doric columns can still be seen standing in the area. The Temple of Octavia, dedicated to the sister of Emperor Augustus (27 BC-14 AD), has a few remaining temples standing. The Peirene Fountain was Corinth’s main water source and remains of this can also be seen. The Asklepieion inside the city wall was the sanctuary of the god of healing with a small 4th century BC temple. A trip to the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth is highly recommended as it features several religious artifacts and collections such as inscriptions of Gallio and Erastus mentioned in the Bible, a synagogue inscription, menorah reliefs, and votive offerings of terracotta body parts to Asklepios. The theatre at Epidavros is the best preserved example of a classical Greek amphitheater and is home to the annual Epidavros Festival in summer which features ancient Greek programs.
The Corinth canal is one of the town’s most impressive features. Here you will find most of the town’s restaurants and cafes. The town’s main events include the annual FIA World Rally Championship: Acropolis in June, the Epidauros Festival and the Kalamata International Dance Festival in July and the yearly Gift Exchange event in December.
