or Davos accommodation? Davos is a resort village in the province of Graubunden, situated on the Landwasser River. It has been made famous by two things; one being that it is the annual venue for the Sprengler Ice Hockey Tournament, and two, it is the annual host of the World Economic Forum. It is the biggest ski resort in Switzerland and the highest city in Europe (1560m above sea level). As Zurich is the nearest airport, 160km away, you can reach Davos by train, bus or car.
With 300km, of slopes, 75km of cross-country skiing tracks, two artificial skating rinks, and Europe’s biggest naturally frozen ice rink, no wonder tourists flock here during the winter months. There is much to do apart from skating and skiing for example snow boarding, dog sledding, tobboganing, curling, snow biking and even swimming – not for the fainthearted. In summer there is golf, hiking, mountain biking and swimming – a better option in summer, certainly. Right through the year one can enjoy bowling, tennis and squash.
There is more to Davos than just a snow resort, it is also a town. There are 78 restaurants, 21 bars and pubs, 10 cafés and bistros and 4 clubs for merriment way into the morning hours. If you like spending money there are designer shops with labels like Prada and even a casino if you’re feeling lucky. Drink beer in the highest brewery in Europe, lose yourself in one of their magnificent parks or pay a visit to the Kirchner Museum or the Winter Sports Museum.
