or Dover accommodation? The town of Dover, in East Kent, in the South East of England, is probably most famous as the home of the amazing White Cliffs. They have been the subject of songs, appeared in movies, and are world famous. There are, however, other attractions in this port city. It was also a city, or at least a settlement, since Roman times, and there is a rich history to be explored. To reach Dover, you can choose to drive yourself, take a train from a variety of major centers, or take a boat or a ferry from Calais in France. The town itself is small enough to be explored on foot, but there are also buses that operate in the town. One of the biggest attractions in Dover is the Dover Castle. This building, known as the ‘Key to England’ is a two thousand year old structure, incorporating a Norman keep, a Saxon Church, a series of tunnels and a Roman lighthouse – definitely a place worth a visit. Other historic attractions in this ancient town are the Bronze Age Boat, which is three and a half thousand years old, and was preserved in mud. Then there is the Roman painted house, which has survived for centuries, and features a heating system and mosaic. For food with a taste of history, you cannot beat the New Inn, a 16th century coaching inn, or try the Marine Court Brewers Fayre for seafood in the harbor.
