Being the most elevated point along Oklahoma Territory’s Santa Fe rail line, Edmond’s original names was ‘Summit’ and was a watering hole for the railroad in the 1880’s. The town was given its current name, which is the name of an engineer on the railroad, by the Santa Fe railroad headquarters in Topeka after the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. Even if most of the remnants of the old railway infrastructure which was named Santa Fe, are long gone, the current Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway still runs the same course.

The very first Oklahoma school house is located in Edmond and still stands as a historical monument at 2nd Street and Boulevard. Recreational amenities include Arcadia Lake, Coffee Creek Golf Course, Pelican Bay, Oak Tree National, and Rose Creek Golf Course.
