United States)
or Elk City accommodation? Elk City is part of Beckham County in Oklahoma, United States. The city is said to have been named for Elk Creek which was named by US Army Captain Randolph B. Marcy. He named the creek as such because he saw elk tracks all around the stream and was also informed that elk had freely roamed the area in the past.
Although the area has never changed the name that it was originally given, confusion occurred because the residents were not served by a post office named Elk City but by one named Crowe, and later, by another one called Busch so that early maps of the early sometimes list the area as either Crowe or Busch but not Elk City.
Today, the city is the principal trade center of Western Oklahoma with industries related to agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, healthcare, and power generation. It also sits on a rich shelf of oil and natural gas making it the “Natural Gas Capital of the World” (self-proclaimed).
The city is also a popular tourist destination with several historic points of interest: Hedlund Motor Company Building, Whited Grist Mill, Casa Grande Hotel, Storm House, National Route 66 Museum Complex, and the Farm and Ranch Museum are just some examples. It is also home to numerous motels/hotels/inns; some examples are Holiday Inn Elk City Hotel, Ramada Elk City, and Best Western Elk City Inn. - Browse the Elk City Map or compare Elk City accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
