The town’s location amidst the Wilder Kaiser Mountains provides it with a lot of scenic trails and spots. During the summer, the resort is ideal for walking, mountain climbing and mountain biking, swimming, hiking, golf and tennis. At winter, you can enjoy cross country skiing, snowboarding, skiing, tobogganing, winter drivng and rides in horse pulled sleighs. The saunas in the town are accessible all year round.
The town in Ellmau is characterized by interesting gift shops, restaurants and cafes. Several skiing schools are opened in winter while summer shops provide gears for cycling, walking and climbing. Several lifts are available throughout the year. A trip on the Hartkaiserbahn railway in winter is well worth it. The Ellmis Zauberwelt in the hilly areas of the town provides breathtaking views of the area at its viewing tower and has a nature park, huts a botanical and a rock garden as well as a historic chapel.
Kaiserbad in Ellmau is an amazing bathing area with state of the art outdoor and indoor swimming pools, numerous water slides, bubbling springs and pools, a sauna and a solarium with indoor tennis and squash. The town is well equipped with a number of cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants. Ellmau’s Christmas market is an annual event with large numbers of people and lots of colorful activities. Several jogging events and small winter fetes are held in the town.
Ellmau has a fair number of hotels, guest houses and winter chalets and lodges.
