or Ely accommodation? The city of Ely perches on a chalk hill in Cambridgeshire, England, overlooking the River Ouse. In fact, it’s thought that this cathedral city is named after the eels in that river. You can’t fly into Ely, but there are trains from London and other major centers, or you can drive. Then again, once in this small city, that stands almost unchanged in the fens, you can easily walk to any of the attractions. The Ely Cathedral is probably the main focus point in the city, and it’s been virtually unchanged since the present cathedral was built in the 12th century. It does contain an interesting stained glass museum, and just across from the cathedral, you can visit Oliver Cromwell’s house – which means there’s a lot of history in this little city. If you’re looking for fine dining in Ely, then the Old Fire Engine, a few hundred meters from the cathedral, fits the bill nicely, and the Minster Tavern, across the road from the cathedral, is one of the oldest pubs in town, with good old traditional ale and pub lunches. Accommodation is limited, and the best bet is the Ely Travelodge, even though it is a mile from the town centre. - Browse the Ely Map or compare Ely accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
