or Fernandina Beach accommodation? Fernandina Beach is located in Nassau County on Amelia Island on the northeast portion of Florida. Known as the Island of Eight Flags, Fernandina Beach used to be inhabited by members of the Timucuan Indian tribes prior to the arrival of explorers led by Frenchman Jean Ribaut who arrived on the island, which was then called Napoyca by the Indians.
The area was at one point home to pirates, but the area soon grew commercially after the end of the Civil and the start of commercial shrimping operations. A portion of Fernandina Beach has been designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places.
Fernandina Beach is home to a number of attractions, among them the Chandlery and the Jeffreys Building, the Old School House, Victorian homes and New Zion Baptist Church. The Chandlery and Jeffreys Building used to be the main source for supplies for outfitters of shrimping boats.
Accommodation options along Fernandina Beach are not hard to find. Most of the Victorian houses along the beach have now been converted into cozy B & Bs but there are also a number that are still private homes.
