Fishers had a population of 65,382 in the 2007 census. Fishers is an Indianapolis suburb and has experience rapid growth in recent decades. In 1963, Fishers had a population of just 1963. In 1980, it had a population of 2000 and just 7,200 in the year 1990. Originally named Mudsock, the name of the town was changed to Fishers Switch, which referred to a railroad switch assignment. The assignment was named after Salathial Fisher which was later shortened to just Fishers in 1908.

Fishers had three annual festivals including the Fishers Freedom Festival, The Flavor of Fishers and the Fishers Renaissance Faire. Fisher’s increase in population brought an increasing demand for entertainment. Its largest banquet hall, the Fishers Banquet and Conference Center has been host to Robert Kennedy Jr., Michelle Obama, Ethel Kennedy and Max Kennedy.
