This is due to the irregular rock formations that illustrate the unique mountain-building processes displayed by Mother Nature.
It is a particularly wind-free area and its moderate climate makes it a wonderful location for outdoor sports both during winter and summer. Flims forms part of the Weisse Arena resort that now combines the previously separate resorts of Laax, Falera, and Flims. This resort regularly hosts international skiing and snowboarding competitions and is popular not only because of its wide-open and windless areas but also because the many and regularly available cable cars makes for easy access. The resort has even featured in two Xbox games!
In summer there are activities such as rock climbing, hiking, paragliding and mountain biking. The area is a natural splendor of lakes, rivers and forest so just taking a walk and dipping into the water is a favorite pastime for many during the warmer days.
The little town itself has the charm of a Swiss Mountain Village and cabins reminiscent of Heidi and Peter dot the hills. As Films is mainly a resort, you are not going to find a bustling city atmosphere here but there are a few lovely restaurants and a lot of hotels. Some of them offer some form of recreation in the form of pubs and clubs like the Arena Hotel. There are 5 star hotels like the Waldhaus Mountain Resort and Spa but cheaper yet still good accommodations are also available at hotels like the 3 star Best Western Hotel Des Alpes.
