or Florina accommodation? Florina is the capital of Florina Prefecture; it is a municipal and town that lies in the mountainous northwestern Macedonua, Greece. The town is a wooded valley about 13 km south that is the international border of Greece with the Republic of Macedonia. The original name of Florina was Byzantine which means full of green vegetation; today is a well cultivated farming region and well known for its fruit market.
Florina is the first town in southern Ottoman provinces to construct a rail line in the late 19th century. Presently the town is linked by a single track standard gauge line to the towns of Thessaloniki, Bitola and Kozani.
You will enjoy the neoclassical houses which lie along the shoreline of the Sakoulevas River. The Cathedral of Florina, Florina Archaeological Museum, Florina Byzantine Museum and the Florina Museum of Modern Art are great landmarks to visit and learn more about the culture of the town. Florina Museum of Modern Art found in 1977 is owned by the Florina Art Centre. There are over 480 collection of artwork done by 254 artists. These are represented in paintings, sculptures and engravings. A library is also located in the museum providing information on visual arts and artists.
