or Folsom accommodation? Folsom, more popularly known for being the site of the famous Folsom Prison (setting of Johnny Cash’s signature song, Folsom Prison Blues), is a city located in Sacramento County in California. Named after Joseph Libbey Folsom who lobbied for a railway to be placed in town, then called as Granite City.
It was the Livermore Family who made possible the creation of the prison in exchange for prison labor to create a hydro-electric dam for a sawmill. When the sawmill failed, the family turned to providing power that was in surplus and could be transmitted not only to Folsom Powerhouse but to the City of Sacramento as well. Today, the powerhouse is a National Historic Landmark.
Folsom is home to notable bridges such as the Rainbow Bridge, Folsom Lake Crossing, and Lake Natoma Crossing. It is also home to other attractions such as the Folsom History Museum, Folsom Zoo, Sutter Street, and the Folsom Prison Museum.
