Galena Accommodation

Searching for hotels in Galena (United States) or Galena accommodation?  Galena is a city that is located in Alaska along the Yukon River. It is 270 miles of Fairbanks’ west, 350 miles of Anchorage’s north, and 1,000 miles of Juneau’s (state capital) northwest. Known mainly for the abundance of fish, Galena is known for being one of the ideal places to visit for salmon fishing.

Travelling to and within Galena may not be easy. During winter, on the Yukon River, less conventional forms of travel are used like all-terrain vehicles or dog sleds. It is also important to point that the only way to reach and leave Galena is by air or by water as the village has no outside connecting roads.

Although travelling to and in the city is a challenge and it can be said that most of the people trek to Galena on a seasonal basis, there are still a number of interesting areas that can be found in the city which guests can enjoy. One of these attractions is the Galena Air Force Base which was closed off totally in October 1, 2008. Much of the facilities and equipments are still in the area but are now under the Galena Interior Learning Academy. Also, the best time to visit the city is during summer in time for salmon fishing. Every summer, the river is flooded by families on rafts and boats to fish for salmon.

There are also general merchandise stores, heated indoor pools, schools, and native organizations in the city. Most of the time, Galena becomes a hub for the smaller communities in Alaska to provide for educational, social, cultural, and other conveniences and services.

There are not a lot of accommodations that can be found in Galena. Unfortunately, it can be said that the main source of lodging aside from cottages and homes in Galena are provided by the Galena Bed and Breakfast, Whakatna Lodge, Borealis Bed & Breakfast, and BBAA Member Inn.
