Ingino, a small mountain of the Apennines, Gubbio is home to the World's second largest Standing Roman Theatre. It boasts numerous historic sights.
Gubbio's dense center has a good selection of medieval, Gothic, and Renaissance monuments built of gray limestone and has great views over the beautiful countryside. Viisit the baroque sites like the Roman Amphitheater, Roman Mausoleum, Church of San Francesco, the picturesque Palazzo dei Consoli, which is home to the museum featuring the Iguvine Tables and the 13th century Duomo with a 15th century façade. Vist the town square, Piazza Grande which offers impressive views or the Abbey of Sant' Ubaldo, just above town on the mountain, can be reached by funicular from the Porta Romana. The Ranghiasci-Brancaleoni Park which spreads below the Palazzo Ducale features a covered bridge and neoclassical pavilions. Other interesting sigts includes Rocca and Porta Romana museum and the Bargello.
Gubbio is best known for its palio, the Corsa dei Ceri, a spectacular run. The race has strong devotional, civic, and historical overtones and is one of the best-known folklore manifestations in Italy. Summer Festival, Procession of the Dead Christ, Festa dei Ceri and the crossbow palio, Palio della Balestra among others are other interesting events to attend.
