It is an ancient city, with a rich history, and is a fascinating look into the history of Portugal. To reach the city, you can fly to one of many airports, such as Oporto, and take a bus or train. Once there, the city centre is easy to walk, although there are buses. The Guimaraes Castle, built in the tenth century, is probably the biggest historical attraction in the city, but, unlike many castles, this one is in the centre of the city. Then there is the Dukes of Braganza Palace, which was constructed a few centuries later, in the 1400’s.
