United States)
or Hammond (Louisiana) accommodation? Hammond is a city in Louisiana, United States; it is the largest city in the Tangipahoa Parish. The city was named after anglicized name of Peter av Hammerdal (Peter Hammond), a Swedish sailor and immigrant who bought the area in 1818 and turned it into a plantation that served the maritime industry.
The New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Railroad came into Hammond in 1854. This promptly made the city a transport and commercial center. The city also had a period as a shoemaking center during the American Civil War. Then, it became the “Strawberry Capital of the World” as it became known for being a major shipping point for the fruit. The opening of 2 interstates and an airport as well as the development of existing highways and waterways allowed the city to transform into a transportation capital.
The City of Hammond has several attractions to offer – some examples are the Hammond Regional Arts Center, Louisiana Renaissance Festival, Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum, and the Kliebert's Turtle and Alligator Tours. Likewise, there are also plenty of hotels for tourists – Quality Inn & Conference Center Hammond, Best Western Hammond Inn & Suites, and Hampton Inn.
