Henley-on-Thames is fairly near to London, and, in fact, can be reached in about three quarters of an hour from London Paddington station. Heathrow Airpot is also about twenty miles from the town, which means a quick taxi ride from the airport will see you in Henley.
Being a town devoted to the river from which it’s name stems, it stands to reason that there will be a significant amount of river related attractions. These include the River and Rowing Museum, that has exhibits related to the Thames, the sport of rowing, and the Wind in the Willows, the famous children’s book.
The Henley Regatta is another big attraction, and during the June / July festivities that accompany the event, you can hire a launch and spend some time on the river. Another important festival for the town is the Henley Festival of Arts and Music, which takes place after the regatta, so you may as well stay a while!
While there are many great, traditional style and modern pubs, hotels and restaurants in the town of Henley-on-Thames, one of the best, and oldest, for good food and comfortable accommodation is the Catherine Wheel, a revamped coaching inn.
