or Hobbs accommodation? Hobbs City, known as the “Home of the Black Squirrels”, is located in the south eastern part of Lea County, New Mexico just near Texas state line. It is considered the principal city of the state.
The place was founded by Mr. James Isaac Hobbs in 1907 and to whom the name was based as well. Its economy skyrocketed after locals and officials discovered that oil and natural gas is being produced from their own land. In the early 1960s, Hobbs became the state’s petroleum centre. Similar to its economic boom, a population that started from 598 expanded to 25,000 after several decades.
Today, Hobbs also performs trade and business related to shipping, cattle ranches, and artesian-irrigated farmlands aside from oil-drilling industries. Its abundant Potash deposit has also added to the success of its economy.
College of the Southwest and New Mexico Junior College is located right in the heart of the city. Hobbs is as well the home of Soaring Society of America, Black Gold Casino and the Zia Park Racetrack which hosts the seasonal quarter horse and thoroughbred racing.
Visitors and travellers can choose from a wide array of hotels within the area which include Country Inn and Suites, La Quinta Inn Suites, Econo Lodge, Hampton Inn and Suites, Comfort Suites, Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express and Sleep Inn and Suites. - Browse the Hobbs Map or compare Hobbs accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
