The town is located in the middle of Florence province, close to Florence town. Impruneta has many attractions including the Badia bell tower which is one of the main points in the landscape of the city.
The most significant feature of Impruneta is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria whose basilica dates back to the 10th Century. It was also an important site of pilgrimage during the middle Ages. The basilica was bombed during World War II, and now only a few of the original ornaments can be seen.
Other attractions in the town include the presbitery which is bordered by two niches by Michelozzo and houses the relics of the Holy Cross and the Madonna's image to which the sanctuary is dedicated to. The museum connected to the basilica is the place where the Impruneta Cushion is located which dates back to the late 14th or early 15th centuries. The cushion is one of the oldest known pieces of European patchwork, and belonged to Bishop Antonio degli Agli.
The town’s annual celebration is the St. Luc feast day which is held on October 18th. This is a week-long festival which features Horse Racing and fireworks.
