Ios has 75 kilometers of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. The most popular seaside destination is the Mylopotas Beach which is filled with sun beds and umbrellas, bars and cafes. Those who want to avoid the crowd may go to the more secluded Maganari Beach.
The main center of Ios is the city of Chora or Hora, which is filled with many restaurants and boutiques. It is a typical quiet Cycladic village with white-washed houses and small alleys that turns into a party zone come night time with its many bars and discotheques like the Coo Bar.
Other attractions in Ios include the Archaeological Museum, the prehistoric archaeological site of Skarkos in Campos, Homer's tomb, the old castle of Paleocastro, the 365 churches and chapels all over the island including the 17th century Agia Irini in the port town of Yialos, numerous windmills, the Hellenistic tower at Plakatos and the remains of an ancient temple at Psathi.
