or Jinghong accommodation? Jinghong is the charming historic capital of the former Tai kingdom of Sipsongpanna in China. Among the town’s main attractions are its amazing botanical gardens, the Pottery Factory, Dai Handicrafts and the Mengle Temple which is the largest in Xishuangbanna. The Dai Water Splashing Festival is held in Jinghong on the 11th month of each year. This cultural fiasco attracts several thousand people and is a very colorful event.
Jinghong is a major cultural hub in China and has several minority villages such as the Hani people in the mountains, the aboriginal Blang people in Yunnan and the Hui people in Menghai. These areas have a rich heritage and are opened to tours. The city’s main cultural centers are the Yunnan Institute of Tropical Craps, Yunnan National Laboratory primate Center and an impressive butterfly farm. Monkey Hill is Asia’s largest rhesus monkey farm. The 11th century Manfeilong Pagoda is a major highlight with nine stupas, impressive sculptures and beautiful paintings. Manting Park boasts a 1,300 year old history and should be visited. The 18th century Octagonal Pavilion is a major cultural and historical site. The Xishuangbanna Nationality Culture Park on the bank of the Liusha River is the site for many cultural events including entertaining ethnic dances.
Jinghong has a wide span of lush rainforest area worth exploring. The Tropical Plant Research Institute in Jinghong attracts a large number of visitors with over 1,000 plants of economical or medicinal value. The town’s most scenic sites are located in and around these areas and include the Peacock Lake, Chunhuan Park, Manjinglan Tourism Village, Folk-Custom garden and the Dai Garden which is the first ecological village. The beautiful Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park is another lovely leisure spot.
