or Kalambaka accommodation? Kalambaka is a city in the Trikala region of Greece. The small town of Kalambaka is built at the foot of the splendid gray rocks, at the point where River Pinios leaves the Pindos Mountain. Kalambaka is best known as the home of the Great Meteora and the five other sky monasteries. In Kalambakayou can visit the Cathedral Church of the Dormition of the Virgin, which was built in the first half of the 12th century. The most interesting feature of the town is the dramatic backdrop of the steep Meteora rocks that frame the northern part of the skyline. The town is clean and quiet, with one main street that runs through it like a backbone, and several squares decked out with sumptuous fountains that have become a point to meet and greet locals in the evening. Most restaurants and cafes are located along the main street and in the few side streets in the center of town. While in Kalambaka you may visit other places of interest, such as, the old Aiginio which is said to be under the earth. The Museum of Modern Art, that features a display of everyday life in rural Greece. Every Friday, Kalambaka comes alive with the Friday Market, an uphill venture from both of the main squares in town, where you can find almost anything you ever wanted. Kalambaka is certainly an experience not to be missed.
