or Kandy accommodation? The city of Kandy is in the centre of the island nation of Sri Lanka, and is considered the last bastion of the original culture of the country. In fact, it is so important to the country’s history that it has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You cannot fly into Kandy, but there are buses, taxis, and mini bus taxis that will take you to the city from Colombo. Once in the city, walking will take you to most of the attractions, however, there are also traditional three wheel taxis. One of the best attractions in Kandy is the Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage, where you will find around seventy semi tame elephants. Then there is the Temple of the Tooth, which houses a tooth that came from Buddha. The Royal Botanical Gardens, the Tea Museum, and a host of other interesting attractions are also on offer in the city. Make sure that you plan your trip to Kandy for August, which is when the Perahera Festival happens. There are also other festivals throughout the year, restaurants, coffee shops, and bars, so you should find something to keep you busy when you are not visiting the historic sites of the city.
