On the day before midsummer’s eve a massive fair takes place called the Leaf Fair and every year this attracts thousands of visitors. Another yearly attraction is a festival called “The Sail” and it happens in late July or early August. It takes place in the harbor and families gather round, eat, drink and watch the sailing boats line up. During the sail the scouts will carry torches while rowing along the dock and plying the national anthems for the visiting ships.
Karlskrona is also a World Heritage Site and history comes alive in the very architecture. Get yourself a map and witness for yourself the marvels of the old world while walking through the city center. The main square in Karlskrona, the biggest in Scandinavia is actually the second biggest in Europe with the Red Square in Moscow being the biggest. Take a walk down to the National Naval Museum or visit one of the beautiful churches still standing after all these years.
There are many little shops, museums, art galleries and café’s to enjoy during your visit as well as hundreds of sightseeing boats and ferries for you to get a better look at this breath-taking town on the water.
