Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, India, which is situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located. Set in the amazing hills of the lower Himalayas, this small town serves as a point for one of the world's great pilgrimages. Indian spiritual fable says that those who visit the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi will be granted any righteous wish they make. While in the wonderful Katra you may visit any of the town's fabulous attractions such as the Banganga Temple where you will journey to the cave; the Charan Paduka is a small temple, which built around a rock that has the impression of the feet of the Mata; the Ardhkumari is a temple built, right next to one of the most extraordinary cave; the cave, known as Garbh Joon is shaped as a womb and is noteworthy because the Mata had spent nine months in this cave, hiding from a demon. This cave is very narrow and the journey through the cave is literally a crawl; the Sanjhi Chath is a little flat terrain which gives a panoramic view of the Pir Panjal Range and the Chenab River that flows into Pakistan; the Bhawan is a holy shrine, the pundits are inside a cave where you can see symbols of a large number of Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon Water that gushes out of the base of the holy Pindies and flows out of the holy Cave. Katra host its main event called the Navratra Festival, which is a nine-day long festival that is aimed at highlighting Dogri culture for you to partake in and enjoy. You can get familiar with Dogri music, folk dance and customs. Devotional songs, traditional Dogri concerts, wrestling competitions, horse shows, plants and flower displays, lightings and festive decorations, form a part of the festival. Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims who visit Vaishno Devi therefore the towns offers plenty of hotels, guest houses that fit all kinds of budgets, such as the Hotel Ashok, the Hotel Jai Maa Inn, or the Panchvati Guest House.
