Built in 1051, this historic cave monastery is considered as the holiest place in the country, housing religious relics and icons including mummified remains of the monks. It is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine and a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the St. Sophia Cathedral, the oldest church in the city.
The most visited museum in Kiev is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War with more than 21 million visitors to date. This memorial complex that centers on World War II is one of the largest in the country with over 300,000 exhibits occupying its 10-hectare property. It is also the site of one of the city’s well-known landmarks, the 62-meter tall Motherland statue.
Other attractions in Kiev are the Andriyivskyy Descent, Chernobyl Museum, National Opera House, The National Art Museum of Ukraine, The Golden Gate, Central Botanical Garden, Monument to the Founders of Kiev and the100-year-old Kiev Zoo.
Summer is the best time to visit the city as during daytime, the beaches in Dnieper become busy and when night falls, the Independence Square in Kiev’s city center becomes a huge outdoor party venue.
