or Kokomo accommodation? Kokomo is the 13th largest city in the State of Indiana, United States, and is the county seat of Howard County. It is officially recognized as the “City of Firsts” having pioneered various achievements and invented various stuff including that of being the first to manufacture automobiles, the first to can tomato juice, and inventions such as the first pneumatic rubber tire, the first Satellite cobalt-base alloy, and the first push-button car radio.
The city was named after a Miami Indian named Ma-Ko-Ko-Mo (spelled at times as Koh-Koh-Mah or Kokomoko) who was first thought to be a chief but was found to be a local legend whose name means Black Walnut.
It was David Foster who founded the first trading in the county and who had donated 40 acres of land so that a county seat could be created in the area. Although the trading post had become popular even in the early part of the 19th century, it was only in 1865 that the area was officially incorporated as a city.
One well known landmark was the Kokomo Gas Tower which was constructed in 1954 but demolished in 2003 due to very high maintenance costs. Currently existing landmarks are the Howard County Historical Society in Seiberling Mansion, Jackson Morrow Park, Highland Park, and the City of Firsts Automotive Heritage Museum.
